Dedication to the Beatles

If I lived in the 60s, I would be, unequivocally, the BIGGEST Beatles fan ever. Their music is bubbling with creativity, ingenuity and those awesome instruments they used in many of their songs. There is something for everyone in the Beatles music because there is such variation. For instance, someone may like a song of beauty like “Let it Be” (ok, most people do... Go Lennon and McCartney!), but someone else may prefer something edgier like “Birthday” or “Back in the USSR”.
Such a big fan!!!
Music today could never come close to the Beatles, although some may disagree. If you do, please suggest a band in the comments. I love hearing new music!
Here’s a list of my favourites at the moment (which are constantly changing due to their array of amazing songs):

Animalistic experience

The other day I felt like an explorer in the wilderness, as I removed the massive pile of newspapers that got left out in the rain. Honestly, it was an insect and spider's paradise in there. A damp, kind-of-sheltered, hideaway.

Here's what happened:

Lifted the first few layers and found some fish moths and small spiders. That was ok.

Lifted the next few layers. Found some magazines I had been searching for, a get-rich-quick scheme from the post, some more fish moths and slightly bigger spiders.

Lifted the following few layers. Found about 100 fish moths and, inevitibly, some spiders. The mould smelt like an art project I worked on once... Don't ask.

As I lifted the next layer, I saw a black blur as something ran for cover. Freaked out. Found it was a bigger spider than the rest. Called my dad, he just smiled and went on with his gardening. Called my mum, she laughed and indicated that the spider must have been enjoying his stay in the papers. Freaked out. Tried to catch him but he ran under a pot plant at lightning speed. Completely freaked out! I have dubbed that his new home.

But wait, there's more.

Amateur video

Decided to compile a somewhat erratic video promoting this blog.. It's based on a video I took of our Christmas lights because I am becoming OBSESSED with light and colour photography and videos and what-not. One day I would love to make a light painting photograph. Just recently got a tripod though so my light paintings thus far have been based on shaking the camera around like crazy on long exposure...

Ok, it is a tad bit boring I know, but it might just need a soundtrack. If there's anyone in the making-videos industry that wishes to comment, please be nice. I'm very amateur. But some constructive criticism would be good. I'd love to make a 'cool' video one day. It's a fun industry to be in.

Here it is (hope I erased the soundtrack successfully... it's just backround noise):

video

There it was... I'm in love with lights. If anyone wants to know how that was done, it was pretty simple really. Just zoom in until the lights are out of focus and press record or take a picture (with the aid of a tripod). It's infinitely fun. Try it.*

A poem

Ok, so I'm biting the bullet and adding some poetry. The last 'proper' poetry I wrote was in high school. Since then, the poems are very few and far between. I wonder if university can turn ones brain into a mushy wasteland... This is a random one called 'cover up' that I wrote when I was sixteen when I was meant to be studying for exams:

Talk of flowery things
and let them set you free,
but sometimes they are hard to see.
The weeds grow and in attack,
they choke the life out until…
  Darkness.
It takes hold and like wisps of smoke,
it begins to enclose the light.
And so we talk of flowery things:
We let the threat’s wisps jump back into the fire,
Until it is the flame
That advances…

Spider fascination

There is a rain spider in my room (or at least I think that’s what it is). He’s big by spider standards, but just a baby. I know this because I’ve seen his elders (they really like our house!). He does me no harm and so I do no harm unto him. Although cleaning my room does take away a lot of his food supply, he seems to be surviving. I wonder if he ventures out to the rest of the house to hunt?

He gets a huge fright sometimes when he sees that I am near and runs in blind panic to the nearest corner. Otherwise he tries the ‘freeze’ technique and doesn’t move a leg.
Admittedly, most of the time I am dead scared of spiders and try to take them outside (and as bad as I feel admitting this, sometimes I kill ones that look threatening or poisonous...)

Other times I realise that they are really dead scared of us and let them have the shelter that they are looking for.

I’ve grown quite fond of this particular spider (maybe because he’s not yet fully grown...) and don’t mind as long as he keeps to the walls, which he does anyway. He exists and I exist and we do not come between each other’s existence.

An inspirational quote

Today's post is simply an inspirational quote that I have to share. It sums things up so well...

"start living now. Stop saving all the good china for that special occasion. Stop withholding your love until that special person materializes. Every day you are alive is a special occasion. Every minute, every breath, is a gift from God." - Mary Manin Morrissey

A Fresh Approach

I'm still really loving the colours from yesterday's post. It makes me reluctant to write a new post because then I won't have that awesome pic on top! But alas, a new day, a new post must be written.
Ok, I take the 'alas' part back. Besides its medieval tone, it is just not true. A new post is exactly what a new day requires (even if the post is written late at night).

Being fresh is what life calls for. New beginnings, fresh ideas, and reinvention.
Otherwise we just get bored.
Ever wondered why you feel bad getting up in the morning to face the new day?
Yes, it may be a hangover...

But it also could be R-o-u-t-i-n-e
the most boring word in the dictionary besides 'nice'.
Admittedly, there are some things that require routine (sigh*) like brushing teeth or putting your shoes on
but
Imagine trying out a new brand of toothpaste for once, or wearing a different pair of shoes, or better yet, no shoes!
Imagine meeting a new person, finding out about a new culture, learning a new word, or faking a laugh to see if it will turn into a real laugh (and it does, trust me! moohaha MOOhaha ha haha omg LOL)

So come on, be spontaneous.
Speak to someone new, even if it's your newly found invisible friend.
Make a funny face in the mirror after you brush your teeth
Put on a random song and sing and dance your heart out
Dance to the music in your head!

What's to come...

What can any random earthling expect from this blog?
The answer is not simple:  the reason being that I do not yet know what to expect from it myself. Never fear though, I will keep it interesting and attempt not to ramble.
One thing you (yes, you with the pink shirtJ) can expect is acceptance, understanding and tolerance. If you feel like I am not living up to these requirements, please complain to my personal complaints commission at megz.inspire@gmail.com. It is highly likely that I will reply. However, if you were to read the metaphorical small print, you would know that however much I try, I cannot repress my inner scatter-brain; and I often have an unreliable internet connection...
Rambling much..?
Ok, getting on with the serious stuff: this blog is a blank canvas and there will be dull grey tones as well as vibrant colourful extracts from certain life experiences. But I read on a blogger-self-help-site that it is much better to get to the point (a point I am working on, I assure you).  Thus, here is a list of some of the thoughts that may filter into this blog:

·         Afrika Burns
·         Happy times
·         Ok, some rambling...
·         Amateur photographs
·         Amateur poetry
·         A personal grasp on reality sometimes
·         Passion for Afrika Burns!
·         Art inspirations
·         Terry Pratchett
·         Food
·         Dogs
·         To be kitsch or not to be kitsch
·         and, is ‘kitsch’ an elitist/ squash the common-man/ snobbish term
·         or,  is it a ‘push-yourself-to-do-better’ rant and rave
·         and
·         rambling... sorry...

Then again, I might treat this blog as a therapist, in which case, who knows what to expect..?
*Love* is really what everyone needs.
Here’s another picture to keep the boring vibes away:

Be Happy

This is a post to say... Be happy:-)

If nothing else.

Sometimes I feel anxious about the smallest things: having visitors, socialising, making a phone call, receiving a phone call... I am a head-case I know...
But. I often turn it around by using some relaxation techniques like breathing and listening to good music and just calming down.

Then I felt stupid about being nervous at all- go figure! Sometimes we blow things way out of proportion so this blog's message is too take a deep breath, calm down and smile.

Sorry about the cheese..;-)

Be good
Be yourself
Be happy

"No!" she says to herself, "you have it so wrong. AND you've named your blog the Fire in your eyes. Come on scared one in hiding. You're kidding yourself if you think you have nothing to be passionate about."
I would love to blog about the brilliant country I live in, the languages, the diversity, the fact that 'howzit my bru' and 'eish' are uniquely South African words that would make me homesick if I were somewhere else. Here is the opportunity to tell people about my passions, my fire and the burning man in South Africa called 'Afrika Burns'...
"so yes, you should calm down and yes, you do actually have blog-stickles that can be overcome."

*Let's do this*

Un-melodramatic

There is an inherent need or more like an aching WANT for me to have a blog! There must be a Meg-magnet surrounding the blog universe that makes me want to star in it... But Why? But How? And most importantly What will I write about?? The philosopher's side of my brain is telling me that 'this too shall pass' and the part that remembers a Monty Python film is telling me to 'get ON with it' girl! Get off your ass and do something about your life! Excitement bubbles through me like a flat coke in a hot windless desolate city...

Crazy!

Wow... Our modem has been offline for some reason unbeknown to humankind and I conveniently forgot that I have the internet in my pocket! Even though, ironically, I was using it to google random mental illnesses (trying to convince myself I am crazy...) Quietly forgetting that I could actually update a blog on my cellphone.

Technology...

So I can say there was a technical difficulty, hem hem, with my daily update challenge and forgive myself (a good sign after reading those psychology blogs:-)) and move on. Sorry this is one looong paragraph but haven't managed to get round that on the cellphone. It is night and I am sleepy so Goodnight... And LOVE to the world. All u need is love world. Sweet good night*

Finally, breaking free!

Breaking free from constraints
of society
Gonna take off my clothes
metaphorically

This comes with NOT caring anymore
about image
or blog status
or making money

This is not for me
for I am free

Ok, so basically gonna treat this blog in a no-nonsense way. This means writing a blog post. That's right people or lack thereof... There will be a blog post a day from now. And if there's not, I will... hmmm. What will I do?
Answer: press DELETE on this blog for good and starting a new one. So I've given myself this challenge and this blog's survival depends on it.
Let's go

>.'.< Flameheart >.'.<

a certain moment

 Shielded
from life
 hiding
from
unknown silent
gestures

 of friendship
 of relationships
 of possibilities

they are alive.
